1.6.2009

I don't have much to say tonight. I am helping Tiffany work on a power point project for one of her classes. She has known about it for 6 weeks. I have known about it for 6 hours. It is nowhere near done, I just took a break to eat and I couldn't look at the pictures of the Holocaust while I ate. Now I'll be back at it. Why can't kids just do what they need to do???

1.5.2009

Today was back to work, and it was a doozy. I don't want to get into it too much here, but basically there was a very bad situation today that could have ended much, much worse than it did. It all turned out okay in the end, there was no fault of anyone at work, and everyone is okay. It was not a day I ever want to repeat though.

Tonight was Zach's first time wrestling at the varsity level. I have a couple of pics, they are very dark and grainy because I didn't take my good camera with me. He did a good job, he ended up getting pinned in the 3rd period, but he fought hard to the end and did a good job of sticking with it even when he was down. I think he likes wrestling more than he will let on, but he'll never admit it.

1.4.2009

I had a longer entry typed and my blog ate it I guess. I guess I will just say I am not looking forward to going back to work, I haven't scrapped over break and I haven't taken any photos yet today. That sums up my longer entry. LOL

1.3.2009

We had a brief family get together today. My side hadn't gotten together for Christmas yet, so my parents and brother drove in for a few hours today. I only got to see them for about 2 hours. :-( The weather is turning bad again so they wanted to head for home. My mom brought me a cool present - she found my 4-H Record book from when I was in 4-H - like 1981-1987ish. It was so fun to look at, even though I was not a great record book keeper. There were photos of me in there for a few years and of projects I made for the fair. And I had handwritten notes on the pages with the photos, so that is fun. Might be my favorite Christmas gift ever. :-)

She also made pillowcases for all of us, with cool personalized prints for each one of us, along with a bunch of games and books. Very fun.

Zach got his first "personalized" college mail today. I took a photo for my 365. It was a brochure from Grand View with a letter inside addressed to him about Grand View athletics. I know it's still a form letter, but it was cool to see. He has gotten a few pieces of just "junk mail" from some colleges but this is the first letter with his name on it. He says ISU will be tomorrow - somehow I doubt it.

He also had a wrestling meet today - got 2nd place and went 2 -1. He pinned his first two opponents in the first period of each match and got pinned in his last one in the 2nd period. He wan't feeling too great and he also just doesn't know enough moves yet, but I think he is getting better.

1.2.2009

My vacation is winding to an end. I love being home with the fam, but I need the paycheck, so on Monday, off to work I will go. I will likely be cranky on Sunday, gearing up for the stress of the work week, kid shuffling, meeting attending, daily life craziness. I need to work on that.

Today the kids enjoyed "sledding" down the back hill. I say "sledding" because there was no sled involved. Instead, the freezing rain we had last week + the refreezing we've had off and on has resulted in a snowy hill, covered with a glaze of ice. I looked at one point and there were 10 kids sliding down on their bellies or backs. Only 2 of them were mine. They were at it all day. I am on the laptop, but hopefully I will add a picture when I upload for the day.

We are meeting Michelle at Orlondo's for supper tonight. Special salad, here I come!

Happy New Year!

I missed out on the 365 project kit this morning, so I am a little sad about that. But I went ahead and took my pictures today and hopefully I will figure something out. I am considering trying to come up with my own version somehow, but I don't know if I have it in me. But I will take pics for awhile anyway to make sure I have them if I decide to do it.

We had a little get together today for the Iowa Bowl game - just a small crowd with snacks. I think it was perfect. And a win was just what we were hoping for.

I had to get up way too early this morning though to prepare, so I think I will be off to bed soon.

December 1

I am so excited! It is the little things in life that I need to embrace - things like I am doing a December daily album (a la Ali Edwards) and I got it nearly completed in time to start today AND I got my first page done today. I also signed up for Shimelle's Journal your Christmas and got that first page almost done today - just need to do a bit of embellishing. I realize the 2 may be redundant, but I'm hoping together I'll do a good job of documenting life right now and my Christmas memories. Truth be told, I don't remember much about Christmas as a kid, so hopefully this will refresh my memory. I just need to finish the cover of my DD album - need some stronger adhesive for a 3D accent I found and liked - and I am short ONE page of having enough for all 1-25 days. I did stop at Christmas, but I can add more if needed. I am doing hand journaling and it is a 6 x 8 album I made myself with some binder rings and chipboard, with just PP for the pages. I don't branch out like that so I am proud! For the Shimelle class, I am doing 8 1/2 x 11 pages, mostly computer journalling as I expect it to be more writing intensive. Sort of hybrid pages, if you will. Here is the photo I used for the first page - taken tonight in the dark, bulb setting on my camera, camera on computer desk and I pushed the shutter and held really, really still, holding my breath until it was closed. I really need to replace my tripod. LOL
